Foundational myth
Most people think that speaking English from a young age at home automatically translates to a good English grade in school. That is not true. Conversational English is only a small part of the Entire GCE English Syllabus whereby a student is graded
Reading myth
This is an offshoot of the 1st myth. People tend to think that they can build a strong ‘foundation’ just by reading more books or newspaper. Getting your child another copy of Harry Potter is good for cultivating imagination but does little to improve her grades
Practice myth
Doing more exam papers will help your child become more conscious of time, but it doesn't solve the root problem. Albert Einstein said: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results." Without the right techniques, more practices won’t improve your child’s grades
The problem becomes even more serious when the only form of English training in schools (and learning centers) is simply mindless drilling of exam papers. It has been well documented that areas related to language processing are located in the brain’s left hemisphere. Ironically, English is traditionally taught as a “right-brain” subject where students rely on their ‘gut feel’ to determine if the answer “looks" or "sounds” right. The reality is that English can be learnt within a shorter time with the use of the left brain. Through extensive research, we have developed a system that activates both sides of your child’s brain to learn English step-by-step using formulas.
As highly experienced Language Specialists who have taught for more than a decade, we have developed deep insights into the MOE English Language Syllabus and simplify it into small digestible chunks for students. If you realise, the English Syllabus comprises 6 core skills (inner ring): Vocabulary, Grammar, Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. These core skills may be further divided into 32 sub-skills (the multi-coloured spokes).
By analysing top students’ thinking patterns and how they approach the different paper components of the English exam, we have eventually mapped out a specific formula for each of the 32 sub-skills. Who am I
Hi, I’m Edwin Edangelus Cheng and I’m the founder and principal of EduEdge Learning Hub. Before founding EduEdge to help students master English easily, I was a school-appointed Head of Department (English), as well as an MOE-appointed Subject Head (Curriculum Innovation). I specialise in making learning more engaging and effective for students.
I am also a trained Research Activist (RA) who’s certified by a Permanent Secretary (Education). There are lesser than 2.5% of the entire teaching fraternity who are RA certified. The rigor of the certification eventually paved the way for the development of my English-learning formula.

English is the Most Important Subject
Failing English means failing the whole entire GCE exams – no matter how many ‘A’s the student has achieved in other subject. This means being retained for another year and re-sitting the exam one more time.
